Pillars of prayer
Pillars of salah are obligatory acts and words within prayer — deliberately omitting one invalidates it.
Pillars of salah (arkan) are obligatory internal parts of prayer. A general Shafi'i summary:
- Intention
- Standing (if able)
- Recitation of al-Fatihah
- Bowing (ruku') with stillness
- Standing after ruku'
- Prostration with stillness
- Sitting between two prostrations
- Final sitting (last tashahhud)
- Final tahiyyah recitation
- Salam
- Correct order throughout
Pillars differ from conditions (external prerequisites) and obligatory acts (which may require sujud sahwi if missed). For the full list, see JAKIM i-Fiqh — we do not reproduce complete fiqh text here.
