History & background

Panglima Kinta Mosque opened in 1916 in old Ipoh city centre — a tin mining town that grew rapidly in the early 20th century. Colonial Indo-Moorish design reflects British mosque style in Malaya.

Named after the Panglima Kinta — district chief of Kinta in the traditional administration system. It remains the prayer centre for Muslims in historic Ipoh Old Town.
