History & background
Kapitan Keling Mosque was built around 1801 by Penang's Indian Muslim community, named after Cauder Mohideen Merican — Kapitan Keling. It stands on Pitt Street in George Town's UNESCO heritage zone.
Blending Mughal and Moorish elements with 200 years of Indian Muslim history in Penang. 1930s renovations added the black domes and minaret known today.
