Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque is Johor's state mosque, opened in 1900 atop Bukit Timbalan facing the Straits of Johor. Named after Sultan Abu Bakar — who modernised Johor — it was built with public donations in Anglo-Mughal style with Victorian touches.
As state mosque, it plays a central role in Johor's Islamic life — from Friday prayer to official ceremonies. Its hilltop location offers rare sea views — worshippers can see Singapore across the strait.
