Hilal sighting in Malaysia

Ramadan, Shawwal, and Muharram dates are set by crescent sighting — follow official JAKIM announcements.

Hilal sighting (ru'yah) observes the new crescent to determine the start of a Hijri month. In Malaysia, JAKIM, state muftis, and strategic sighting locations are involved.

Dates for 1 Ramadan, 1 Shawwal (Eid al-Fitr), and 1 Muharram are officially announced — do not assume Gregorian dates without confirmation.

For sighting history and current procedure, see JAKIM announcements and our zone guides. See also the Hilal sighting guide in our Guides section.
