Azan, iqamah, entry time

Entry time is your zone’s e-Solat clock. The azan announces time has entered. Iqamah is the mosque’s call to stand, not a JAKIM column.

Quick Answer

Azan, iqamah, or JAKIM time — which is the prayer time?

Entry time is your zone’s e-Solat clock. The azan announces time has entered. Iqamah is the mosque’s call to stand, not a JAKIM column.

What is entry time on a JAKIM timetable?

Entry time is the moment that obligatory prayer has entered, according to the official hisab for your zone. The Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha columns on e-Solat are entry times. Prayer at that moment is valid as far as time is concerned — you do not wait for the azan before time “counts.” The azan is an announcement; the timetable is the clock.

Do not worry if radio or phone azan differs by a minute or two. In Malaysia it is safer to match e-Solat for your zone, or a mosque that follows JAKIM.

Is the azan the same as JAKIM time?

The azan should be given after time has entered. In practice, state azan systems and major mosques usually follow JAKIM. Sometimes speakers lag, or a phone app uses Google parameters. If the azan is earlier than e-Solat, do not pray before entry time. If the azan is later, time has already entered — you may pray alone if needed.

What is iqamah, and why does it differ?

Iqamah is the call to stand for congregational prayer. Mosque A may wait 8 minutes after the azan; mosque B 15. That is the local imam’s arrangement, not a JAKIM column. Iqamah is not a “second prayer time.” Do not move Maghrib breaking-fast to mosque iqamah if you are waiting for entry time.

Frequently asked questions about Malaysian prayer times

May I pray before the azan if JAKIM time has entered?
Entry time is the JAKIM column. The azan is an announcement. If time has entered, praying alone is valid as to time — congregation still follows the mosque.
Why is mosque iqamah later than JAKIM Maghrib?
Iqamah leaves room for azan, wudu, and rows. It is not a second Maghrib. Break fast at e-Solat Maghrib for your zone.
Phone app or JAKIM?
In Malaysia follow JAKIM e-Solat. Global apps often differ by 1–5 minutes.

Educational summary — verify with JAKIM/i-Fiqh for authoritative rulings.

Times here are matched from JAKIM e-Solat. This is not an official government site. If anything differs, check e-solat.gov.my or ask your mosque imam.
