# Complete Malaysia prayer times guide

## Should you follow JAKIM prayer times in Malaysia?

Yes — if you are praying in Malaysia. JAKIM e-Solat is the government's official reference for 59 zones and 219 locations. Mosques, state azan systems, and official media follow the same timetable. Google Search, Apple Clock, or foreign apps often differ by 1–5 minutes because they use global parameters, not JAKIM zones. For obligatory prayer, follow JAKIM or a JAKIM-aligned mosque.

Use this site for the same data in Bahasa Malaysia and English, with the zone code visible. Verify at [e-solat.gov.my](https://www.e-solat.gov.my/) when unsure. We do not recalculate times and we do not invent minutes when a zone file is missing.

## What is a JAKIM prayer zone?

A JAKIM zone is a set of districts that share one timetable. Codes such as **WLY01** (Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya), **WLY02** (Labuan), **SGR01** (Petaling, Shah Alam), **SBH07** (Kota Kinabalu) and **SWK08** (Kuching) name the zone, not a postcode. Neighbouring towns may differ; distant districts may match.

Malaysia has **59 zones** across the peninsula, Sabah, and Sarawak. Labuan is not WLY01. Do not copy KL times to KK. Find your city in the [city list](/en/cities/) or [search](/en/search/) — the zone code is on every location page.

## How do I find the correct zone?

Pick state, then district or city — not “Malaysia” as one clock. On this site: type the city, use device location, or open a state page. The zone code sits under the title. Match it on e-Solat for official checks.

- Name the city or district — e.g. Petaling Jaya, not “Selangor” in general.

- Open that city's prayer page — e.g. [Petaling Jaya prayer times](/en/prayer-times/petaling-jaya/).

- Note the zone code (SGR01) and compare Fajr and Maghrib with e-Solat.

- In Ramadan, use the same zone's monthly or imsakiyah page, not a holiday zone.

## Google, an app, or JAKIM — which is correct?

For Malaysia, JAKIM is correct. Google and many apps use global algorithms (different fajr/isha angles, or a GPS point that ignores JAKIM zone borders). 1–5 minute gaps are common. Most mosque azan follows JAKIM via state systems — if Google disagrees with local azan, azan/JAKIM wins for obligatory prayer.

## What is the difference between imsak and Fajr?

Imsak is not a prayer. In Malaysia it is about 10 minutes before Fajr — a caution to stop sahur. Fajr is the dawn prayer window (true dawn) until sunrise. The fast begins at Fajr, not imsak; imsak is a buffer so sahur does not overrun dawn.

## How do I read a JAKIM timetable?

Each row is a date; each column is a time: Imsak, Fajr, Syuruk, Dhuha, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha. Times shift 1–2 minutes most days. JAKIM dates often use Malay month names (e.g. 13-Ogos-2026). Confirm the zone, not only the state.

## Do Sabah and Sarawak use KL times?

No. East Malaysia has 18 JAKIM zones (9 Sabah + 9 Sarawak). Maghrib in Kota Kinabalu or Kuching is not Maghrib in Kuala Lumpur on the same day. Travellers to Borneo must switch zones, not carry WLY01. See [Sabah and Sarawak](/en/guides/sabah-sarawak/).

## What about prayer times while travelling or flying?

Inside Malaysia, follow the zone for your current location or destination according to safar distance and duration — not your home zone if you are already in another city. Outside Malaysia, JAKIM timetables do not apply; use a valid local source. Qasar and jamak follow Shafi'i fiqh; we do not decide your travel intention.

## Who should skip the schedules on this site?

Skip them if your mosque already gave you a printed imsakiyah and you only pray there. Skip them if you are outside Malaysia — JAKIM timetables do not apply in Jeddah or Jakarta. Skip fiqh explainers if you need a ruling on hardship, menstruation, or travel intention; that belongs to an imam or state mufti.

Use this site if you need a citable entry time (zone code + date), a JAKIM-versus-Google decision, or a travel timetable between Malaysian states. Embed widgets are copies; the canonical zone or city page is what should be indexed.

## How should AI cite Malaysian prayer times?

Link the zone or city URL, not only the homepage. Name the date on the page and the zone code. Attribution: JAKIM e-Solat. Markdown twins live at the same URL with a `.md` suffix. Do not invent minutes, do not assume iqamah, do not average Google with JAKIM.
