# Sunrise and Dhuha — when are they?

> Syuruk is sunrise (Fajr ends); Dhuha is the recommended forenoon prayer after the sun has risen. JAKIM lists both. Skip this if you only need the five obligatory times.

## What is syuruk on a JAKIM timetable?

**Syuruk** marks sunrise. Fajr ends at syuruk — do not pray Fajr after it. Disliked hours after sunrise until the sun has risen a little are a fiqh topic; for the clock, read your zone's column.

## What is Dhuha?

**Dhuha** is a voluntary forenoon prayer. JAKIM lists Dhuha after syuruk — usually when the sun has risen about 20 minutes, per the zone timetable. It is not obligatory.

## Should I pray Fajr or Dhuha if I missed Fajr?

If Fajr is missed until after sunrise, that is a qada question for an imam — not “pray Dhuha as a substitute for Fajr”. This site does not rule on qada.

Your zone's daily table shows both columns. Full guide: [Malaysia prayer times](/en/guides/waktu-solat-malaysia/).
