Prayer while sitting guide
Sitting prayer (ma'dhur) is permitted when standing or bowing is not possible — Shafi'i method; see JAKIM i-Fiqh.
Sitting prayer (on a chair or seated) is allowed for those who are ma'dhur — ill, injured, or physically unable to stand, bow, or prostrate normally.
Shafi'i principles in Malaysia:
- If unable to stand — sit for all standing pillars.
- If unable to prostrate — signal with the nearest limb (eyes or hands).
- Condition: genuine hardship — not convenience; consult fiqh scholars if unsure.
Prayer times still follow your JAKIM zone — sitting prayer does not change Fajr or Dhuhr times.
