# Google vs JAKIM — which prayer time is correct?

> For Malaysia, official JAKIM e-Solat times are the correct reference. Google Search or generic apps may differ by 1–5 minutes because they are not JAKIM zones. For obligatory prayer, follow JAKIM or your local mosque. Skip this page if you already know your zone — open the city schedule.

## Why does Google differ from mosque azan?

Google uses a global calculation on a GPS point. JAKIM uses 59 official zones and the Shafi'i school. Zone borders are not the same as “my location” on a map. Fajr or Maghrib on Google can therefore lead or lag e-Solat by a few minutes.

## Which should I follow in Malaysia?

JAKIM. Most mosque azan follows e-Solat via state systems. If Google shows Maghrib earlier, do not break fast before JAKIM Maghrib for your zone. If Google is later, do not delay Fajr past the official time.

## When is a global app still useful?

Outside Malaysia, JAKIM timetables do not apply. Use a stated local source. In flight, use JAKIM travel guidance — not an unsourced “prayer time” search.
